Adventure Team La Crosse
Adventure Team La Crosse
June 14, 2023 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Myrick Park, 2000 La Crosse St, La Crosse, WI 54601, USA
*For registered riders only, more information can be found at: https://906adventureteam.com/adventure-team/
The La Crosse County Adventure Team provides kids (and their coaches) with a fun, non-competitive atmosphere to learn to be the best version of themselves through outdoor adventure. As a team, kids will discover the outdoors around them, overcoming age-appropriate challenges, supporting each other, and celebrating everyone’s successes on and off the bike. Our dedicated volunteer coaches will lead weekly group rides that allow kids to explore their abilities, safely push their boundaries, and have fun while acquiring life-long skills and building resiliency that can be carried through other aspects of their lives. Not all kids will be at the same level, but they can work together as a team, building strong relationships with each other and encouraging each other along the way. We want to foster a growth mindset and teach the “power of yet” by showing kids that obstacles become easier to overcome if they keep practicing. Join us for our inaugural year and show our kids they can do anything they put their minds to.
We will meet at Myrick Park, with basecamp across the parking lot from the Eco Center. At the beginning of each ride, with assistance from coaches, riders will learn how to check their equipment to ensure a safe and fun adventure ahead. Riders and their coaches will begin riding and practicing skills on the double track through the Marsh Trails, a combination of paved and limestone trails. These trails are shared-use trails, allowing us to teach kids how to be respectful of and share trails with other user groups. As each group progresses, rides may get a little longer, allowing us to ride to Lueth Park to take advantage of the bicycle playground and skills areas.
The life-long skills that our kids will learn during Adventure Team will provide a framework for the rest of their lives. The YouTube videos and social media posts our kids are exposed to don’t show them real-life timelines and expectations. Instant gratification is unrealistic, and learning to overcome obstacles won’t always happen the first, second, or third time they try, but knowing that it’s ok to fail, learn, and grow is empowering. Building honest, supportive relationships will translate to healthier communities. In this fast-paced, technological world, let’s teach our kids how to slow down, find out what truly matters to them, and do the hard things with them.
